New Thought & Homeless Youth
Dr. Jerry Troyer, ANTN Board President, joins Dr. Pjae Stanley to discuss his other passion of supporting young adults.
In addition to being an independent ordained New Thought minister Jerry works at Urban Street Angels, an organization in the San Diego area that provides housing, employment and other services to homeless transition age youth, ages 18 to 24.
Of the 70 youth housed in the downtown San Diego programs, most became homeless as a result of aging out of the foster care system, or “coming out” to their family as LGBTQ and being rejected, or being emotionally or physically abused in their “home” situation.
In his casual day-to-day conversations with many of the youth, Rev. Dr. Jerry is able to share New Thought principles, inviting the youth to have a “new thought” about their interactions and experiences that day, as well as opportunities to begin to forgive, heal and reframe their history. He has had several spirited discussions with youth about the amazing book, “The Four Agreements.”
Jerry loves to talk with the youth, reminding them that their past need not determine their future.
